Sally Hansen Nail Biter

Posted in Sally Hansen by admin on December 31, 2010

Bitten nails?

As a child I would bite my nails…and by biting my nails, I mean my nails, the skin around it, etc. I stopped by 6th grade and it has been a couple of years since I have bitten them. Now, my nails are smooth and thick. And short. I’m worried that I’ve caused permanent damage to them, because the nail bed (the pink part) hasn’t grown any longer, like other ex-nail biters have claimed would happen. I want to know if my nails will ever grow longer, or if there is some product I should use.

I read good reviews on Sally Hansen’s Nail Growth Miracle, but supposedly it doesn’t work if your nails don’t have a “free edge”. There is an expensive kit from mavala (http://www.whatshebuys.com/maesforbinas.html) but I’m not sure if it will work.

If anybody can give me suggestions, testimonials, etc., if would be very appreciated.

Thanks!

I have bitten my nails for my whole life—about 23 years now… I bit them really bad…until they bled, down to the white moon-looking thing. I’ve tried everything–including those nail polishes(they dint work). I found this product on-line called “Control-It”…it is the ONLY thing that I am completely disgusted by. www.stopbitingnails.com is the website. It tastes HORRIBLE!!! It was about $20 for about a months supply—-but it lasts WELL over a month(I’ve been using it for about 6 months now). It comes in this little 1/4 oz. container…it looks small…but it goes a LONG way. It is like a balm-typed cream–that you just dab on your nails. It is the only thing that has helped! My nails look amazing! After your nails start to heal, you’ll notice that the skin below your cuticle is starting to get little peels–its natural..it’s the skin repairing it self! It works so well. I also got one of those 7-way nail buffers which helped with making the nails look decent, because as your nails grow they are going to be jagged looking-trust me–this stuff works!

Estee Lauder Private Collection

If you were my 53 year old grandmother, what perfume would you like?

Im 17 years old by the way but money isn’t a problem. Im choosing between this or a spa treatment (I live in nyc). But I just wanted to know which of these perfumes would be most appropriate for her. I am aware some of these perfumes are over $200 but I want to give the best and I can afford it:

Bond No. 9 New York Bryant Park
CHANEL Chance Eau Fraîche
Estée Lauder Private Collection Tuberose Gardenia
Marc Jacobs Fragrances Daisy Marc Jacobs
Prada Parfums Infusion d’Iris
Chloé Eau de Parfum
Dior Diorissimo
Dolce & Gabbana Light Blue
Estée Lauder Beyond Paradise
Editions de Parfums Frédéric Malle Carnal Flower
Ralph Lauren Notorious

Which are definite no-no’s? As in not appropriate for her. And which should i narrow it down to? Im also bringing her out to a restaurant with my little brother and sister as well. Also, which would you like, spa treatment or perfume?
I would ask my parents but they don’t talk to my grandmother ever since they had a fight with her.

Well i asked my grandmother and she preferred the spa treatment but just in case you still want perfume, i searched every perfume on your list:
Bond No. 9 New York Bryant Park: this one might be too sweet smelling because it includes pink pepper, raspberry, rose, and other strong substances.

CHANEL Chance Eau Fraîche: this fragrance could be a good selection for your grandmother. It isn’t too strong. It has a cool floral scent. It supposedly smells the best when it dies down (smells like vanilla).

Estée Lauder Private Collection Tuberose Gardenia: this timeless, luxurious, and elegant fragrance would be an excellent choice. It got really good ratings. It has the scent of the actual flowers in nature.

Marc Jacobs Fragrances Daisy Marc Jacobs: this one depends. If your grandmother is serious, then she won’t like it. If she is more playful, then she’ll love it. The sephora website gave an excellent description: “Enter the world of Daisy: fresh and feminine, with a playful innocence. At the heart of Daisy is a floral with vintage edge: violet. Sophisticated, with a touch of whimsy, violet captures the eclectic, vintage flavor of Marc Jacobs’ feminine, edgy designs. Always elegant, always enchanting – but not too serious – Daisy is a sparkling floral bouquet, spirited and fresh, wrapped in comfort and warmth.”

Prada Parfums Infusion d’Iris: this perfume might be a little too old lady. It contains hints of mandarin orange and iris. Its scent strength is moderate, it lasts 6-10 hours, its recommended use is casual, and its categorized for mature people.

Chloé Eau de Parfum: this fragrance got A LOT of bad reviews. To many people said it was something you have to get used to and was a VERY distinct and feminine.

Dior Diorissimo: this one got 4 ½ out of 5 stars. It is described as refreshing, flowery, romantic, tender, and carefree.

Dolce & Gabbana Light Blue: like the prada infusion perfume, this might be too “old lady” for a 53-year-old mostly because of the granny smith apple scent.

Estée Lauder Beyond Paradise: this one got 3 ½ out of 5 stars. Its a blend of tropical wetness, zesty freshness and a burst of floralcy. This one might be too young but the bottle is REALLY cool.

Editions de Parfums Frédéric Malle Carnal Flower: VERY STRONG but exquisite scent. A few people said that if you spray it directly out of the bottle, then people around you will gasp for air. Haha.

Ralph Lauren Notorious: i dont think this one would be suitable for a 53-year-old. It may be colorless and sparkling but it’s known for its addictive and sensual scent.

***OVERALL:
#1= Daisy Marc Jacobs (depending on personality and attitude)
#2= Dior Diorissimo
#3= Estée Lauder Private Collection Tuberose Gardenia
#4= CHANEL Chance Eau Fraîche

Gore-tex Pro or Gore-tex Soft Shell?

I’m trying to choose a ski jacket, between North Face “Free Thinker” (Gore-Tex Pro) and North Face “Sedition II” (Gore-Tex Soft shell). I ski mostly in CA and my main concern is breathability. I tend to get wet from the inside rather than for the outside ;-) I understand that Soft Shell would be more breathable than the Gor-Tex Pro shell but it looks like Sedition II (Soft shell Gote-Tex) has a fleece layer and i’m afraid that even though it is more breathable, it is going to keep me more more hoot so i’ll end up sweating more. I have had a chance to try Free Thinker with the 200 weight fleece underneath and it kept me relatively warm and dry, compare to my old Spyder jacket, even though when i took the shell off, i could feel some moisture on the inside of the shell.
Appreciate any professional opinion.

First, I can tell you that Gore-tex “softshell” is a scam. Basically, it’s Gore-tex with a fleece lining. Is that inherently bad? No. It’s a fine material. But it is not a softshell material by anybody’s definition. It breathes only as well as any other Gore-tex material (which is to say much worse than any real softshell material), and it has no stretch, so it must be cut like a hardshell to allow any range-of-motion. If you sweat in old Gore-tex stuff, you will sweat and wet yourself in Gore-tex “softshell”.

What happened was that W.L. Gore was caught flat-footed at the current softshell revolution. Gore is heavily invested in PTFE membrane technology, and weak in all the other technology that true softshell materials involve, such as stretch-wovens, discontinuous membranes, double-weaves, hydrophobic fibers, etc. So their marketers came up with Gore-tex “softshell”, which they knew would sell on the Gore name alone, and supposedly one-up all the real softshell materials by being waterproof (duh, most of it is regular Gore-tex). People would miss the fact that the entire point of a softshell is to bias the equation toward BREATHABILITY better than Gore-tex (at the sacrifice of total weather protection). People would also miss the fact that real softshell materials are stretchy, so that it can be cut to fit closer than a traditional hardshell and still permit motion. Part of this is so that the clothing looks better on the wearer, but also so that there is less internal air volume, which both keeps you warmer and also allows the clothing to dry out faster if it gets wet.

Again, understand that I’m raining sh!t on Gore-tex “softshell” because its name is deceptive advertising, not because the material sucks. It doesn’t suck if you’re just looking for a Gore-tex hardshell with a fleece lining.

Gore-tex Pro Shell is supposed to be better, though. It’s supposed to be more breathable than Gore-tex XCR, and is close to eVENT’s breathability without that material’s durability/contamination issues.

However, neither material is going to be as breathable or motion-permissive as true softshell materials, such as Polartec Power Shield, Schoeller stretch-wovens, Pertex, etc. The compromise with true softshell materials is that it’s more breathable and comfortable 90% of the time, and with enough weather protection for 90% of the time. However, softshells will fail you at that last extreme 10%, such as a continuous rain downpour (it’s water-resistant, but not completely waterproof) or at the top of a 14000ft mountain (it’s wind-resistant, but not completely windproof). This is where “the questions” come in: will you ski in a rain downpour (hopefully not) or through bitterly-cold gale-force winds (maybe on this one)? How often?

The real answer to those questions is that a good setup would have both a hardshell and a real softshell (not Gore-tex “softshell”) to choose from, depending on how bad the weather will be that day.

Maybelline Lip Stain

Good beginner makeup?

I’m kinda starting with makeup but not rlly bc I know how to apply everything . I’m gettin

some new makeup 2moro and was wondering wat brand is good and wat I should add to my list if anything:
1. Maybelline clear mascara
2. White eyeliner
3. Revlon colorstay liquid foundation
4. Maybelline falsies mascara
5. Covergirl or revlon lip stain (and what color looks best with girl blu eyes and medium/fair skin?)

thank you everyone for the help! <3

I’d say skip the foundation and the Falsies. If you’re a beginner, I’m guessing you’re young.
I started wearing makeup when I was 13. I’m 15 now, and I just started wearing foundation, but I will only wear tinted moisturizer or a foundation made to help acne. Revlon ColorStay is WAY too heavy a foundation for a younger person to wear. It’s pretty high coverage, so go with something lighter if you think you must wear foundation. But otherwise stick with a concealer for now. The Falsies is also a pretty dramatic mascara. I’d go with Great Lash instead if you’re a beginner. It has a tiny brush which is easy to get used to. Remember, start out small and then eventually start trying new products. If you go all out with makeup before you truly know what you’re doing, you could end up looking like a hot mess. Good luck! :)

That’s the same shade I use of MAC and I use the medium beige shade in bare minerals. Hop[eThis Helps!! (:
